Vuselela
REBIRTH – From the bush… to your home.
The uniforms:
The beginning — piles of retired uniforms. Uniforms that have worked hard. They have been worn through the African bush, in the heat of the sun, the rain, dust and long hours of protecting wildlife. After hundreds of kilometers of patrols, they are too worn through and faded to wear.
The snares:
Wire snares are silent and indiscriminate. They cause a horrible death. Removing them from the bush is an important part of protecting wildlife
The idea:
Looking at piles of retired uniforms and recovered snares, one question kept coming back: What can we do with all of this?
The answer became Vuselela — a project giving materials that had reached the end of one purpose a new life, while raising funds to support the Nyathi Anti Poaching K9 Unit.
The transformation:
The old uniforms are sorted into their many shades of green, cut into strips and transformed by hand. Each piece carries the marks of its former life -giving character to the fabric.
From old uniform to something beautiful
What began as worn-out workwear becomes a Christmas wreath — something beautiful to hang in a home, while carrying a story from the African bush with it.
Why Vuselela?
Vuselela means rebirth in isiZulu. It captures the heart of this project: giving something old a new purpose, and turning a reminder of difficult work into something that brings hope.
Old uniforms. Old snares. New hope.
Your wreath helps support the Nyathi K9 Unit:
The Vuselela project raises funds to support the Nyathi Anti Poaching Unit’s K9 programme. The K9 Unit forms part of Nyathi’s wildlife-protection work, using trained dogs and handlers to support tracking and anti-poaching operations.
The story continues with you:
When you take a Vuselela wreath home, you are taking home more than a Christmas decoration.
You are taking home a little piece of a conservation story — a story of people who walk the bush, wildlife protected, snares removed, uniforms that have done their duty, and old things being given new life.
Thank you for giving it a new life.
May it carry a little piece of the African bush with you.
