In a joint venture on Thursday 17 April 2025, Nyathi Anti Poaching Unit joined Hluhluwe SAPS and reservist members of the SAPS, Hluhluwe Stock-theft and Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife to preform a crime prevention operation before the upcoming Easter weekend. Having joint operations provides additional personnel and resources to lower crime and prevent crime in the Hluhluwe and surrounding areas.
The team started their operation in Hluhluwe town after receiving information about illegal gambling and the selling of illicit goods. After throughly searching through stalls and people, four people were successfully arrested and charged for illegal gambling.
The team then moved to a neighbouring community to search taverns who are selling liquor without a license to the public as well as outlets where drugs are being sold. Here two people were arrested, one for dealing in dagga and another for the selling liquor to the public without a prescribed license. One of these suspects being a repeat offender.
The team set up a stop and search roadblock just North East of Hluhluwe, these roadblocks are used in the effort to disrupt criminal activities, look for illegal immigrants, hijacked vehicles and stolen goods. The team search 37 vehicles and managed to successfully arrest one illegal immigrant.
The team arrested and charged a total of 7 people, searched 37 vehicles and searched 76 people.
Future joint operations are planned to disrupt criminal activity and build greater trust between the public and law enforcement.
